Girlboss - Ethical Style

People Tree is one of my favorite brands because they are fair trade certified, use only certified organic cotton, and are transparent about their supply chain. I also appreciate that their clothes can be easily included into a capsule wardrobe yet their style is not basic. Each piece has a detail that make it interesting and timeless. So when I stumbled across this tie top, (now on sale!) I just had to create an outfit to go with it!

I think this black and white Maura tie top is a great example of how classic yet modern a wardrobe can be. The tie belt detail makes this top go from basic to remarkable and it would look great on boyish/rectangular body shapes, as the belt helps create an hourglass figure.

One of my favorite trouser options is the  Monica trousers from People Tree, made by Creative Handicrafts, a social enterprise working to empower disadvantaged women of the slum communities of Mumbai, India. These trousers are light, jersey-feeling fabric that are comfortable yet chic.

Of course, you want comfortable shoes if you’re commuting to the office, but you don’t always want to compromise on style. These Coclico Akaw Slingbacks are a great option, and they’re made from locally-sourced leather in Mallorca, Spain. Coclico also works with ethical and sustainable goals in mind and believe in “slow fashion.”

Last but not least, this Icon Saddle bag from Maiyet is a great way to tie the look together. Maiyet is a luxury, ethical brand that works with a small circle of artisans and suppliers to provide the highest quality pieces. Working in places like India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Mongolia, Peru, Bolivia, and Thailand, they work with local suppliers who have sustainable and ethical standards.

Power pieces like these are a great way to create a wardrobe that isn’t bursting at the seams, but is entirely YOU. Each piece here can be used somewhere else to diversify your outfits, but they’re ethically-designed and built to last. What better way to inspire your work day than by looking your closet and seeing pieces that you LOVE... rather than a ton of junk you don’t want to wear?
