Some of the most exciting fashion brands I've found started off as a Kickstarter campaign, and it was an honor to help these talented group of designers to promote their new venture here at Conscious Fashionista!

So what are they up to right now? I followed up with some of these ladies to find out!

Where are you at right now with the post-kickstarter production?

We are currently waiting for our fabric to be shipped from India so we can begin production. We are also working on our second collection and hoping to launch this fall.

Carolina adds: If you'd like to sign up for updates on the upcoming collection, sign up here and learn more about the traditional technique that is being used in the making of the bandhani collection!

In business, plans are good for about 10 seconds after the ink dries lol. Have you had any unexpected setbacks or unexpected boosts to your company once the crowdfunding ended?

Yes! We hit many road bumps, haha! The biggest one has been our handmade fabric from India. Our weavers had to battle the worst monsoon season in a decade which resulted in a month delay in weaving, then 2 to 3 weeks of waiting for a shipping courier since the monsoon caused major delays in exports, and now we have been waiting for our fabric to clear customs for about a week. It has been difficult.

Carolina adds: *I AM HAVING FLASHBACKS FROM MY PREVIOUS JOB* Logistics + bad weather = stress. all. the. time. So congrats on keeping your sanity during this period!

What would be your top tip for someone who is planning to use crowdfunding to launch a product?

Plan for the unexpected and go with the flow. I think this just doesn't apply to crowdfunding, but overall launching something new. It is so important to know going in that there will be obstacles and road bumps, but it is totally worth it if you believe in what you are doing so stick to it, and don't get too bogged down when things go south.

What is next for your brand?

We are hoping to ship our Kickstarter rewards out late September, and launch our second collection in October for pre-sales! Fingers-crossed. :)

Thank you so much for all your support with milo+nicki! We are so grateful and can't wait to see Conscious Fashionista grow and flourish!

Dina, founder of Sixchel

Sixchel

Slow fashion that is female positive

A family tragedy lead Dina to find a new purpose with sustainable fashion and founding Sixchel. In Spirit of 608, you get to learn more about her brand and her story...and in this interview, we talk about the meaning behind the colors and inspiration behind the first capsule collection (hint: it's all about reclaiming our strength and value!)

Where are you at right now with the post-kickstarter production?

We are at the beginning stages of production. This means that the factory is making adjustments to our patterns and grading them. In other words, the patterns for each style is getting prepared and made for each size. Once this is accomplished, we will order fabric and get on the factories schedule for production.

In business, plans are good for about 10 seconds after the ink dries lol. Have you had any unexpected setbacks or unexpected boosts to your company once the crowdfunding ended?

Yes, I have definitely experienced a few setbacks and what is more annoying - the β€œsecond-thoughts” setting in. I do have a few things I would have done differently with the collection and the whole Kickstarter campaign in general. However, this is all part of being an entrepreneur and growing your business. I definitely did learn a lot and am ready to move forward with new projects that will be more attentive to the needs and wants of the customer; feedback is always welcomed.

Carolina adds: You should really follow Sixchel on Instagram. She posts the best motivational quotes on Mondays!

What would be your top tip for someone who is planning to use crowdfunding to launch a product?

You can never start early enough to tell people about your crowdfunding campaign and the launch of your new product. Furthermore, have a clear launch strategy. I made the mistake of not creating more excitement and enthusiasm about the launch date and that has been my biggest regret.

What is next for your brand?

SixChel is at the beginning stages of producing our collection and because of a small set back with scheduling, our run has been pushed back a couple of weeks. We are also brainstorming and preparing new ideas. As we were running our Kickstarter campaign, we realized that our products were not offering our customer a direct way to give back to the community or our environment. We believe that most people have the desire to give back, but may not know how nor have the time to research and find avenues to do so. As a business, we feel it is our responsibility to provide this opportunity to the consumer. So, please, stay tuned as we will soon release more information about how you can be an active consumer.

Jiayin, founder of Dooblawey

Dooblavey

One dress, endless style

I didn't get to interview Jiayin for her Kickstarter campaign because it was launched before The Conscious Fashionista's relaunch...but I really liked the idea of a dress that could be styled in different ways (I'm all about fashion that is fun and practical) and wanted to use this opportunity to feature Dooblavey! For some serious style inspiration, follow Dooblavey on Instagram.

Where are you at right now with the post-kickstarter production?

We fulfilled all of the pre-orders from our kickstarter supporters in July, which is 2 months ahead of the delivery schedule. Our customers are happily wearing them for the summer!

In business, plans are good for about 10 seconds after the ink dries lol. Have you had any unexpected setbacks or unexpected boosts to your company once the crowdfunding ended?

Post crowdfunding, we have been extremely focused on our existing customers by working on production and ensuring they get the highest quality product on time. We have not done much outreach to obtain new customers, which we are hoping to do soon. Though we did recently launch our e-commerce site to prepare for that.

What would be your top tip for someone who is planning to use crowdfunding to launch a product?

MARKET IN ADVANCE. Everything I read from top crowdfunding experts have said to prepare 1 year in advance, to build your audience before you launch. I did not have that kind of time for marketing, but I did have a prototype that was already in the works for a year. I spent one month creating the Kickstarter page (photography, video, etc) from scratch. When I launched, it was gorilla Facebook posts and I was lucky enough to have friends that believed in me and the product. I really do wish I had the time to gather my audience prior to launching though.

What is next for your brand?

To make DOOBLAVEY more accessible. We will be doing more customer outreach soon and  launching our educational platform to show the many ways of incorporating the W Dress into your daily wardrobe.

Sophie's designs got me all 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 !!!! Exotic prints, sophisticated design, and each pattern comes with an environmental story...check out the e-store and follow Gung Ho on Instagram, I'm sure you'll love it!

Where are you at right now with the post-kickstarter production?

It's incredibly exciting times... the organic sweatshirts are currently being embroidered after the prototype quality control was given the thumbs up (they are so beautifully finished), the earrings have been made and sent out (glitter is e v e r y w h e r e!) and the organic fabric has been printed and is about to be turned into the pieces! The collection will go live mid September and I cannot wait!

In business, plans are good for about 10 seconds after the ink dries lol. Have you had any unexpected setbacks or unexpected boosts to your company once the crowdfunding ended?

So true. Yes a bit of both really! The organic cotton I made my prototypes up with was discontinued, such a shame, but instead they have an incredibly similar beautiful organic twill that I am almost more excited to use (so swings and roundabouts). Luckily it's done by the same company, so I know it will remain as high quality. I've also had quite a few earrings orders off the back of people who pledged and have been wearing them around! Seems hilarious as they aren't even online yet but the vibe is very positive and I love getting to know the people repping the brand.

What would be your top tip for someone who is planning to use crowdfunding to launch a product?

To harness the crazy overwhelming feeling into something that drives you to really hit that target. Write blogs, contact anyone you think will like what you're about. Social media is amazing, really go to town on that! Network and always rep your products - it's surprising how many people comment and strike up a conversation without you having to push it too hard. It's wonderful how many people care if you're trying to shake something up a bit and make a change.

What is next for your brand?

I am prepping to shoot the collection and then it will be focusing on getting the brand out there in physical boutiques too. Pop ups are great for brand awareness and a fab way to see how different areas react to the brand so no doubt I'll be teaming up with other ethical London brands! I guess it will be riding the high from the Kickstarter and keep up the momentum. We've had a great reaction and I'm really excited to see where it takes us!

Thank you ladies for the time and for inspiring us to live and dress with purpose! πŸ‘ΈπŸ»
